Research Introduction
Research:
How technical and visual codes are used to construct
meaning-
A code is a visual or technical element that an audience has
learnt to imply meaning. Conventions are recurring elements that group together
to make a genre, in this instance it’s a “real life magazine”. Technical and
visual codes are the conventions that allows the product to be represented to
the audience. In terms of magazines these include the masthead, tag line and
the central image etc.
It’s important for a media product especially a magazine to represent a social group, the more social groups represented and featured in a magazine, the more social groups will be interested in reading the magazine. It’s important for a magazine front cover to have the correct conventions to engage the audience and get more people interested. For example, if there was an image on the cover that covered the whole page which was bright and interesting then it’s more likely to grab their attention.
