Magazine analysis research: real life story
Front cover full of real-life events.
The masthead is Large and bold thus attention can be drawn
easily.
‘Crime scene’’ - Key demographic is any gender and of any age above 16. The
target audience will most likely have a interest in crime and other peoples
personal experiences.
Audience aged 16+ as stated previously, it’s a crime
magazine which suggests it is aimed towards a wider ranged audience because it
could contain sub genres such as theft, murder and assault.
The masthead is strategically placed at the top of the page,
high enough to attract attention but ensuring it doesn’t obscure the central
image.
The images act as a key signifier, it introduces the
audience to the key theme of the magazine. After doing some research I noticed
that there is a similar female if not the same person on each front cover. This
would be a good signifier that this magazine is a “that’s life” edition.
A key magazine convention is displaying the barcode, price,
and date. Including these three codes is very important as it tell the reader
the price and which issue, they have purchased by looking at the date.
The mode of address is very direct, almost everyone on the
front cover is looking directly into the camera suggesting that they are
talking straight to the reader.
Including mugshots create meaning as they are showing the
reader the real images behind the real stories. The red on the front cover could
possibly represent blood as it is a crime genre real lude magazine.
Magazine analysis research: real life story
Bella
is a real-life story magazine.
The work Bella is written in pink suggesting the main theme for the company is pink. This
is portrayed all over the magazine in the images and the typography.
The colour scheme is a good convention as it is a bright colour
therefore its an easy colour for the audience to recognise and realise is a Bella
magazine.
The big and bold text also draw the reader to the magazine
This magazine makes me think it’s a magazine designed for women,
this is portrayed through the colour scheme as pink is a feminine colour, the
images; all the people on the cover are female suggesting this will most likely
be something that women will relate to and lastly the wording, words like “beauty”
and “shopping” suggest this magazine will appeal to women more than men.
The fact that Linda’s head is covering part of the masthead
indicates that the magazine is well-known enough for not all of it to be
showing.
Magazine analysis research: magazine of my own choice
I chose to analyse this magazine as it much different to real
life magazine. In light of that I chose the vogue fashion magazine.
For harry to be positioned over a lot of the masthead
indicates that vouge is a very well-known company.
The whole magazine is very simplistic but after doing some
research I learnt that this is very much something that vogue do. In a sense it
is their ‘brand’.
Compared to other magazines such as a real-life story
magazine, there are not too many cover lines on the front cover. I also
researched this and learnt that the cover lines correlate to the colour scheme
of the individual edition. For example, if the background for an image was pink
then the masthead and cover lines would either be the same pink or one similar.
Judging by the typography the colour scheme, harry styles and
what he is wearing I am assuming this is a magazine for everyone of any age and
gender.
Harry represents men but is wearing feminine clothing, this
suggest he is telling the reader that they maybe don’t have to specific
criteria.
