Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

 Product 1

I have chosen to do an online safety real-life magazine as my key demographic of 16-25 years old are most likely to relate this a lot. The chosen genre for the magazines will be the conventional chatty magazine but will also have some factual stories included I also intend to add some interviews. Therefore, I feel this type of magazine would be highly suitable for the age group because not only would they rather read a talk magazine, but they are also gaining some knowledge about staying safe online. One of the editions of ciao, I plan on creating representations by having the whole theme of the magazine to be quite simplistic in the sense that the backgrounds will be quite basic for the text to especially stand out as the content is the key part of the brief. The facial expressions on the models I intend to make quite neutral as the intention is to raise awareness of online abuse and the side effects. However, there will also be bright and colourful graphics on the front covers to attract the audience and to make more like the conventional chatty real-life magazine. The outfits on the magazine front covers will be very casual everyday wear representing that you done have to be a particular person to receive any hate online and will transmit a message that everyone experiences the same thing. To make the editions more like a real-life magazine I intend to cover the majority of the front page in witty coverlines and information in the same layout as any other real-life magazine.

The target audience for the brief is 16-25 therefore, I feel my magazine themes is a good idea this is because everyone in the age range has almost certainly got some form of social media or latest technology thus making the magazine appealing for them. As a result, the audience can interact with this as they would have most likely have experienced some of the stories shared throughout the magazine.

Product 2

For the website there will be sort of the same running theme, the website will include the two editions of the magazines and two content pages for each edition. To fit the brief there will be a home page and 1 linked page (although I will probably include some extra empty ones) to make it more realistic. The website itself I intend to make quite minimalistic, after doing some research I found that I liked the simple layouts the most. On my website I intend to construct representations by keeping the colour scheme the same as the magazine will be quite neutral with some light pinks. The main colour scheme for the website I intend to make neutral when researching I find that things were easier to read on more basic and natural backgrounds compared to colourful and loud backgrounds. However, there will be a pop of bright colours from the graphics featured on the magazine front covers this will make it easily recognisable for the audience. As stated on the brief, all the images included on the website will be my own original images. some of the images I intend to feature are pictures of technology (mobile phones, tablets etc.). I also intend to include images if the physical magazines in real life scenarios to tell and show the audience that u can read or visit the website any time or any place.

How do you intend to link your media product to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

I intent to like the magazine to the magazine website by featuring the website name in an obvious spot on the magazine front cover and contents page, this will draw the reader’s attention to it, then this will inform them about the linked website. Somewhere else or maybe even the same place I intent to include some social media apps, that the audience can see more information and follow on. I also believe this is a good idea as this is what the main idea is about, therefore it’s a perfect feature for the key demographic, thus them being high followers of the internet so both the magazine and the website can reach a much wider/global audience. Some of the stories that will be featured on the contents page will have an ending like “to read more, visit our website” this will encourage the audience to head over and continue reading the stories over on the website.
